A tiny and delightful fishing hamlet
Penberth Cove, just east of Porthcurno (TR19 6HJ) lies at the foot of a wooded valley. It’s picturesque, unspoilt, and a perfect spot for a picnic, swimming and snorkelling, or an amble along the coastal path… but you need to know about it to find it!
The waters are crystal clear and you can see the rocks and kelp below. This stunning cove oozes sublime peace and tranquillity. On the walk down you’ll pass a red telephone box that still works and rope swings. There’s also a little stream with stepping stones.
Directions & Parking
From the A30 head to Penzance and follow the signs to Porthcurno. You’ll pass through St Buryan and Sparnon on the B3283, then continue onto the B3315. Turn left following the sign to Penberth Cove. The cove is at the bottom of the hill, but there is small roadside parking area on the way down and thereafter, it’s only a short ¼ mile walk.
Circular Walk
If you don’t mind a longer walk of 3.2 miles, you could choose to park at Porthcurno, Main Valley Car Park (TR19 6JX) and take a circular walk which is classed as “moderate” by the South West Coast Path. It generally follows good paths, some over fields, one length of a minor road and the coast path with one steep climb and descent.
