Get your dancing shoes on!
May means the official arrival of spring in Cornwall and May Day celebrations abound. Many of this month’s events involve music, traditions, art and literature and any excuse for a dance!
1st & 2nd May
English National Surfing Championships
Head down to Watergate Bay and watch surfers compete for national titles.
1st May
Padstow May Day
Better known as Obby ‘Oss Day, locals spend the night decorating the streets and watch in the morning as two ‘osses dance through the streets. Popular event, get there early!
1st May
St Agnes Bolster Festival
Watch the re-telling of the ancient legends of Cornish giants when life size puppets parade through the streets and down to Chapel Porth beach.
2nd May
St Ives May Day
Traditional singing and dancing to welcome in spring. Great family entertainment by the harbour from 1pm.
6th – 14th May
Fowey Festival of Art & Literature
The 18th Fowey Festival promises another line up of top authors and literary events all taking place by the river in Fowey.
7th May
Helston Flora Day
Traditional event to bring in the spring when the streets of Helston are decorated with flowers and dancing takes place. A great family day out with events from early morning through to the evening.
14th – 21st May
St Ives Literature Festival
Book launches, reading and workshops with St Ives Food & Drink Festival from 14th – 15th May.
15th May
Lostfest in Lostwithiel
Stalls, arts and crafts, dancing, music and generally a great day out.
27th – 29th May
Bodmin Moor Poetry Festival
Poetry readings, workshops, walks, visual arts and a writing workshop are amongst some of the things in store.

Tunes in the Dunes
Another great line up of acts for this year including Tinchy Stryder, Dizzee Rascal, James Morrison, The Waterboys, Wheatus and Seth Lakeman.

Penryn Arts Festival
Open studios, spoken word, visual arts, performances and a line up of exciting events across the town.

Open Studios
260 artists, designers and makers across the county will open their doors to visitors.

Fal River Festival
A mix of arts and events centred around the Fal River.
