Tasty scenic Cornish treats
Hedgehog, Shipwreck and Jammie Dodger – what are we talking about, only the most exciting Cornish ice cream flavours! But where’s the best place to eat them? From cow to cone these artisan producers know how to tickle the taste buds. Take a look at our guide to the hottest new flavours (pardon the oxymoron) and Cornwall’s best ice cream eating spots!
The Hedgehog
Undoubtedly one of the best known in Cornwall, the Hedgehog is not some new carnivorous flavour but a rich Cornish clotted cream ice cream rolled in delicious honey roast hazelnuts. The resulting ‘hedgehog’ effect look is where this tasty morsel gets its name from.
Scenic location: Chapel Porth Café TR5 0NR.
Wild Cherry with Cherry Sauce and Crunchy Chocolate Flakes
Taking a trip to Roskilly’s farm is a day out in itself. Free to visit, there’s meadows, trails, a shop, restaurant and of course the ice cream.
Scenic Location: The Lizard, with the farm located at Tregellast Barton Farm in St Keverne TR12 6NX. If you can’t make it there, enjoy a Roskilly’s ice cream from Whistlefish at Padstow Harbour.
Salted Caramel
Produced by Kelly’s of Cornwall, it’s billed as ‘the one everyone is talking about’ and certainly tastes good with its clotted cream, caramel sauce and Cornish salted caramel fudge pieces.
Scenic Location: The Ice Cream Cellar, Porth Beach TR7 3NH.
Salty Peanut
Treleavens award winning ice cream is an alternative to the Salted Caramel. However, if you don’t fancy that one, then why not try one of the other 90 flavours!
Scenic Location: The Beach Hut, Watergate Bay TR8 4AA.
Ferrero Rocher
39 flavours including Ferraro Rocher, Willy Waller’s in St Ives also has a range of vegan sorbets. Spin the wheel outside the shop if you can’t decide on a flavour!
Scenic Location: Willy Waller’s Ice Cream Factory, Wharf Road, St Ives TR26 1PZ.
Shipwreck
This intriguingly named ice is actually a mouth-watering combination of this season’s must have flavour, salted caramel, combined with traditional honeycomb and toffee. Produced by Moomaid of Zennor, there are over 30 other flavours in their range.
Scenic Location: Porthminster Beach Café TR26 2EB.
Triple Choc Chunk Fudge Chunk Choc Chip Ripple & Jammie Dodger
A mouthful in itself, Mr B’s artisan ice cream flavours also include Jammie Dodger and one with a crafty swig of Jack Daniels amongst the 300 flavours! Based in Hayle, visit the Copperhouse or Foundry locations or look out for the ice cream van on the way.
Scenic Location: Foundry Sqaure, Hayle TR27 4NG.
