After the hustle and bustle of the new school year, October half term is the first chance to take a break and it’s a great time to visit Cornwall with the family. If you’ve youngsters with you then take a look at some of our October half term ideas in Cornwall as lots of attractions provide special activities for the week, not forgetting the spooky side of things!

25 – 26 October
National Maritime Museum Cornwall – Contemporary artist Kurt Jackson shares his experience with younger artists at the NMMC’s ‘Big Draw’ event.
25 October – 2nd November
Discover some mysterious woodland trails, take part in crafts and listen to fireside tales with a Heligan Halloween theme.
25 October – 2 November
Eden Project – A day out in itself, October half term activities include ice skating and spooky Halloweden with wand making, a monster mud workshop, ‘Room on the Broom’ film screenings and potion workshops!

Have a go at some wild beach or tropical garden inspired art, play on the giant rope swing or find your way around the cherry laurel maze at Glendurgan Garden, near Falmouth. (National Trust)

With a free pumpkin for all paying children, join in the pumpkin carving and Halloween Fun at Dairyland Farm World, Newquay.
29 October
Halloween Tricks and Treats Firework Spectacular and a creepy Victorian village at Flambards.
31 October
Cornwall’s Crealy – Meet and greet the Moshi Monsters.
Visit:
Heartlands World Heritage Site, a free all weather visitor attraction near Redruth with a giant adventure playscape for children, craft studios, sculptures and exhibitions.
Classic Air Force, near Newquay for an interactive aeroplane filled day.
Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay, daily talks and feeds with 40 naturally themed habitats.
Kidzworld Cornwall all weather play centre with climbing walls, ball pits, sky trail, dodgems and mini golf. Join the Halloween Fancy Dress party from 7 – 9pm on 31 October – booking essential!
Newquay Zoo – join in with storytelling, music, puppets and dance with a children’s show, ‘The Giants of Cornwall,’ from 27 – 30 October and then enjoy some ghoulish fun at the zoo on 31st.
Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre where they can discover all about shipwrecks with fascinating exhibits and Kids i-spy and colouring trails. Under 10’s free with a paying adult.
Lappa Valley – Open for all of half term week from 25th October, enjoy a ride on the model trains before the close of the season on 31st October.
Royal Cornwall Museum‘s week of lantern making and hands on activities will get little minds buzzing. Free for under 18’s.
Take them on:
- The Camel Trail from Wenfordbridge near Bodmin to Padstow – walk or hire bikes and stop off for a pasty. Beautiful views along the Camel Estuary on a safe trail.
- Cardinham Forest trails near Bodmin offer graded off road bike and walk trails, play areas and a Woods café.
- South West Coast Path walk and discover beaches, lighthouses and caves along the way.
